Why Hush Soap?

Designed for itchy, reactive, eczema-prone skin

🛑

Stops the itch cycle

Three botanical actives — nettle, calendula, and thyme — work together to calm histamine responses and reduce that constant background itch.

🔧

Repairs the barrier

Rich conditioning oils support the skin's natural barrier function, helping prevent flare-ups and keeping moisture where it belongs.

🫧

Cleans without stripping

No sulphates. No harsh detergents. Just a gentle, effective cleanse that leaves skin calm — not tight, not dry, not angry.

Our story

This began as something for our family

I've had itchy skin for as long as I can remember. Not necessarily severe — just more reactive. More sensitive. I learned to live with it.

Then my kids started scratching.

When I saw them rubbing their arms, their legs, their noses — I knew exactly how they felt. That constant background itch. That frustration. Both of them developed eczema, and like many kids, they scratched until it broke the skin. That scratching led to infections. Itch, scratch, flare-up, heal, repeat.

We tried different approaches. GPs, specialists. Creams, washes, routines. I was dismayed by some of it — prescribed steroid cream used daily for six months with no change, no benefit. It makes me sick thinking about it.

Not anymore.

I wanted something simpler. I started researching traditional herbal medicine — how people supported sensitive skin long before modern skincare aisles existed. I experimented first on myself. Adjusting ingredients, removing anything too harsh, focusing only on what felt calming and supportive.

The formula became gentler. Simpler. Natural. We started using it regularly at home. The scratching reduced. The flare-ups felt easier to manage. Skin felt calmer.

That's where Hush Soap was born — right here in our home. Made with love for our kids.

The name came from that feeling that it just quietens things down.

I shared small batches with friends and family. The feedback was honest: "This feels different." "My skin feels calmer." "It doesn't sting."

So now we make small quantities and share them with others who might need something gentle and thoughtfully made.

We hope what helps us might help you too.

Active botanicals

Three herbs. One purpose.

🌿

Urtica dioica

Nettle

Naturally Calming & Skin-Strengthening

  • ·Helps calm reactive, itchy skin
  • ·Supports a healthy skin barrier
  • ·Rich in natural minerals
  • ·Traditionally used for sensitive skin

Stinging nettle has been used for centuries across Europe as both a nourishing food and a medicinal herb. Once dried or infused it becomes deeply soothing. Traditionally used to reduce inflammatory conditions and calm irritated skin — especially valuable for reactive, sensitive, or itch-prone skin.

🌼

Calendula officinalis

Calendula

Gentle Repair & Skin Comfort

  • ·Supports skin repair and renewal
  • ·Helps reduce redness and irritation
  • ·Traditionally used for delicate skin
  • ·Comforting for dry areas

Calendula's bright petals are rich in triterpenoids and flavonoids that support tissue repair and calm inflammation. Historically used in salves for minor wounds, dry skin, and irritated conditions. Promotes gentle healing without overstimulation — beloved for sensitive or easily inflamed skin.

🌿

Thymus vulgaris

Thyme

Naturally Purifying & Balancing

  • ·Helps purify and refresh the skin
  • ·Traditionally used for skin balance
  • ·Supports a clear, healthy appearance
  • ·Naturally aromatic and uplifting

Thyme has been used since ancient Mediterranean times as both a culinary herb and medicinal plant. Rich in thymol, it was traditionally valued for its antimicrobial and cleansing properties. In our bar, thyme is used gently — to complement and support the calming botanicals, not overpower the skin.

Every ingredient, explained

Nothing hidden. Nothing harmful.

Olive Oil

The heart of traditional soapmaking

Creates a mild, creamy, low-irritation cleanse. Naturally rich in oleic acid for skin softness. Supports and protects the skin barrier — ideal for sensitive and eczema-prone skin.

Avocado Oil

Vitamin-rich and deeply nourishing

High in vitamins A, D and E, plus essential fatty acids. In soap, it enhances creaminess and leaves skin feeling supple rather than stripped. Especially beneficial for dry and sensitive skin.

Coconut Oil

Cleansing power and fluffy bubbles

Rich in lauric acid for effective cleansing. Balanced carefully — enough to lift dirt and bacteria, not enough to strip delicate skin. That clean feeling without the squeaky dryness.

Shea Butter

Deeply moisturising and soothing

Traditionally used to calm and soften irritated skin. In soap, it contributes a velvety lather and leaves skin feeling protected after rinsing. Loved by sensitive and eczema-prone skin.

Castor Oil

The quiet hero behind rich lather

Even in small amounts, it transforms bubbles into something creamier. Naturally humectant — it attracts moisture toward the skin. A small ingredient with a big impact on how the soap feels.

Lye (Sodium Hydroxide)

Essential for real soapmaking

Lye is what turns oils into real soap. During the curing process (which takes weeks), it reacts fully with the oils — none remains in the finished bar. What's left is gentle soap and naturally occurring glycerin, which helps retain moisture. Traditional, time-tested craftsmanship.

How to use

Simple. Intentional.

Wet skin thoroughly. Work the bar into a gentle lather with your hands or a cloth.

Allow the lather to sit for a moment — let the botanicals do their work.

Rinse well with warm water. Pat dry gently — never rub irritated skin.

Store your bar on a draining soap dish between uses. A well-drained bar lasts significantly longer.

For children

Safe for sensitive skin.

Hush Soap was specifically designed with children's sensitive and eczema-prone skin in mind.

All botanical ingredients are used in gentle concentrations — effective enough to help, mild enough not to irritate.

As with any new skincare product, we recommend a small patch test first, especially for very reactive skin.

If eczema is severe, consult your healthcare provider.
