What goes into every bar
Nothing hidden.
Nothing harmful.
We believe you should be able to read and understand every ingredient in your soap. Here is everything we use โ and everything we deliberately leave out.

Plant oils, thoughtfully blended
Cold-process soapmaking is the art of combining oils with lye to produce soap and glycerin naturally. The oils we choose determine how a bar feels, how long it lasts, and how your skin feels after washing.
Olive Oil
The backbone of traditional Mediterranean soapmaking for thousands of years. Olive oil produces a mild, creamy cleanse rich in oleic acid, leaving skin feeling soft and comfortable after rinsing. We use a high percentage in our bars to ensure a genuinely gentle, conditioning lather.
Avocado Oil
Cold-pressed avocado oil is rich in vitamins A, D and E, as well as essential fatty acids. It enhances the creaminess of the lather and leaves skin feeling supple โ a wonderful addition for dry skin types that appreciate a more nourishing cleanse.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil provides cleansing power and the satisfying, fluffy lather that makes a bar feel like a proper wash. Rich in lauric acid, it lifts away impurities effectively. We balance it carefully against our conditioning oils so the result is a thorough cleanse without that tight, stripped feeling.
Shea Butter
Shea butter transforms the texture of a bar. It contributes a velvety, creamy lather and leaves skin feeling comfortable and soft after rinsing. Sourced from the shea tree native to West Africa, it has been used in traditional skincare preparations for centuries.
Sweet Almond Oil
Prized as the "beautifying oil," Sweet Almond is rich in Vitamins A and E. This nutrient-dense oil creates a silkier, more refined lather than traditional fats, helping to soothe and protect dry or sensitive skin. We include it in our blend to add a layer of lightweight luxury, leaving your skin with a smooth, supple finish.
Castor Oil
The quiet hero of soapmaking. Even in small quantities, castor oil transforms bubble quality โ from ordinary foam into a rich, creamy, almost lotion-like lather. Naturally humectant, it draws moisture toward the skin. We include it in every single bar.
Palm Oil
Palm oil gives a the bar a rich, creamy, and stable lather. Adding hardness and longevity โ without it, bars can be soft and melt away quickly on a soap dish. We only use responsibly sourced, RSPO Certified Palm Oil.
Sunflower Oil
Light, gentle and rich in linoleic acid, sunflower oil adds a silky quality to the lather without heaviness. Well tolerated by most skin types, it contributes to a pleasant, comfortable skin feel after rinsing and rounds out the oil blend beautifully.
Deliberately excluded
What is not in our soap
Choosing what to leave out is just as important as choosing what to put in. Here is what you will never find in a Hush Soap bar, and why.
No Titanium Dioxide
A common whitening agent in commercial soaps โ we skip it entirely to avoid any concerns about potential inhalation risks during production or nanoparticle-related debates. Our bars get their colour from botanicals, clays and natural micas only.
No Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
A harsh synthetic foaming agent found in many mass-produced soaps. It can strip the skin's natural oils and leave skin feeling dry and tight โ the opposite of what we're trying to achieve.
No Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
A milder but still synthetic surfactant common in commercial body washes. Avoided here to keep our formulation completely free of synthetic detergents and to prevent any potential for skin irritation.
No Parabens
Widely used preservatives in conventional cosmetics. We steer clear due to concerns they may act as endocrine disruptors and to keep our ingredient list as clean and natural as possible.
No Phthalates
Often hidden in 'fragrance' blends to make scents last longer. We leave them out entirely โ where we use fragrance, we use fragrance oils that are phthalate-free and clearly disclosed on the label.
No Synthetic Fragrances
A single 'fragrance' listing on a label can contain hundreds of undisclosed chemicals. We use either natural essential oils, named fragrance oils, or nothing at all โ so you always know exactly what you're washing with.
No Artificial Dyes
Brightly coloured commercial soaps rely on synthetic dyes that can cause irritation in sensitive skin types. Any colour in our bars comes from natural sources โ botanicals, clays, herbs, and natural micas.
No Triclosan
An antibacterial agent once common in commercial soaps, now largely banned in many countries after studies raised concerns about hormone disruption and antibiotic resistance. Plain cold-process soap cleans just as effectively without it.
No Propylene Glycol
A petroleum-derived humectant found in many commercial soap bases. We exclude it to keep our formulation fully plant-based and to avoid any potential for skin irritation from synthetic petrochemical ingredients.
No Mineral Oil
A cheap petroleum byproduct used in some budget soaps and lotions. We prefer nourishing plant oils that absorb and benefit the skin โ not a petroleum barrier that sits on top of it.
Pure. Simple. Honest.
